Two of our board-certified Nurse Practitioners at FamilyCare of Kent, Washington have been specially trained in travel health consultations for personal and business traveling. If you plan on traveling outside the United States or above 8,000 feet of altitude schedule a travel consult with us.
Traveling abroad should be memorable... in a good way. FamilyCare of Kent, Washington extends its expertise in preventive health to travelers, offering customized health-related services to travelers of all ages and for travel anywhere. Pre-travel consultations, itinerary-specific medical recommendations, vaccinations and medications are available to individuals, families and groups. Prevention is the key concept in travel health.
We will offer country/region specific advice and preparation including:
- Vaccinations: tetanus, diptheria, pertussis, poliomyelitis, hepatitis A and B, varicella, Japanese encephalitis, meningoccoal meningitis, rabies, measles, mumps, rubella, typhoid fever and yellow fever. We are an Official Yellow Fever Vaccination Center.
- Medications for treatment and prevention on your trip including: Malaria prophylaxis, traveler’s diarrhea, altitude sickness and motion sickness.
- For diseases without vaccination or treatments we will give both verbal and written advice on prevention measures.
- An emergency evacuation from a foreign country may cost upwards of $30,000! (ask us about evacuation insurance)
When to schedule your consult?
For some diseases, vaccination needs to begin many months prior to travel including hepatitis A, hepatitis B and Japanese encephalitis. Depending on your destination and plans, your travel consult should occur anywhere between 4-6 months to the week of your travel.
The best resource for healthy travel is the CDC.
