About Us
You are in charge of your healthcare. We’re the consultants.
Our Story
In 1984, Bob Smithing and his future wife were new graduates and unemployed in Canton, NJ. They decided to start a nurse practitioner (NP) practice to prove that if given the option, patients would choose NPs over traditional physicians (MDs). The concept was unheard of at the time. More than 30 years later, FamilyCare of Kent has four NPs and some of our original patients are still coming to the practice. Get to know our nurse practitioners and staff.
Our Philosophy
On family – We go out of our way to cater to families, especially brand new parents and families with young children who have lots of questions about how to raise healthy, happy kids. We see lots of mothers who are pleased to know we can also see their spouse and kids.
On immunizations – We are absolutely PRO vaccination. Why? Because children can die from preventable diseases if not properly vaccinated. All vaccines are available in our office for your convenience.
On comfort – We will do everything we can to keep you comfortable if you are having a potentially uncomfortable procedure, such as an IUD insertion or removal. (By the way, Bob Smithing is an IUD expert who was quoted in Women’s Health magazine.)
Why Choose a Nurse Practitioner?
Our providers are all board-certified family nurse practitioners who are licensed by the state of Washington. This means they can help your family with most of the health concerns for which you might see any other provider, such as a primary care physician.
Nurse practitioners perform annual wellness exams and evaluate all types of medical concerns as well as lifestyle, social, and work-related issues; nutrition and exercise habits; and other personal needs. They administer immunizations and prescribe medications and review your health record carefully to avoid unnecessary duplication of tests or procedures.
